Munuaisvaurio altistaa hypertension kehittymiselle. Toisaalta kohonnut verenpaine voi johtaa hypertensiivisen munuaisvaurion syntyyn. Kohonnut verenpaine nopeuttaa diabeettisten ja ei-diabeettisten munuaissairauksien etenemistä.
